Ovaries are an integral part of the female reproductive system. They are located in the lower abdomen, and on both sides of the uterus. Their primary function, as far as propagation of the species is concerned, is to produce ova (or eggs). Ovaries also produce progesterone and estrogen, two of the principal female sex hormones. Ovarian Cancer Symptoms are quite easily confused with signs of other ailments or normal internal body workings. For instance most women will at some point develop an Ovarian Cyst. This is a fluid-filled sac that is, for the most part, painless. It can sometimes be painful but is not cancerous. Most women will also experience some level of discomfort (if not outright pain) during ovulation. They will, however, over time, be able to isolate this pain and identify it for what it is.
Among many other possible causes of ovarian pain may be the development of an Ectopic Pregnancy (where a fertilised egg implants outside the uterus), in itself a life-threatening occurrence if left untreated. Ovarian pain may also point to the presence of an abscess, Oophoritis (inflammation of the ovaries), or one could simply be suffering from Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). These infections are normally caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi or protozoa. The sensible thing to do when one experiences a pain that is not caused by a visible injury, and which refuses to go away, is to seek medical advice. Whatever the diagnosis appropriate action can then be taken and, where necessary, set one on the road to recovery.
Symptoms
Ovarian Cancer Symptoms may include incessant indigestion, nausea and bloating. An unexpected thickening of the girth should also ring the alarm bells. These symptoms could of course be an indication of something totally unrelated to the ovaries or indeed to Cancer itself. Early screenings remain your vanguard weapon of choice.
Pay attention to any changes in your bowel movements and any sharp rise in the number of toilet visits to urinate. Pressure and pain in the abdomen, lower back and pelvis are possible indications of the presence of Ovarian Cancer. Back pain is a particularly ubiquitous symptom and can be an indication of one of a whole raft of ailments, so it is best to consider the symptoms holistically. A long drawn-out loss of appetite and feeling of being full after having a small meal could also indicate the presence of this disease. With our high pressure jobs a general feeling of fatigue will occasionally afflict us. A quick shower and a snack will normally put us back to rights. If, however, you are experiencing a general air of lassitude that persists for days a visit to your doctor will at least help to identify the cause and quite possibly help rule out the presence of Ovarian Cancer in your body.
